Funding

Each participating AHSC AFP Governance Organizations is provided a proportional allocation of the total funding available each year. They, in turn, solicit research proposals and subject applications to an internal competitive peer review process to select the best proposals for funding. Interest in the process has gained momentum since its initiation in 2008/09.  This year, over $20M is available for innovative projects lead by academic physicians across Ontario.

Showcase

In November 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, and 2023, the IFPOC held Showcase conferences to highlight some of the extraordinary work being undertaken by academic physicians from across Ontario using Innovation Fund support. The next conference is planned for November 2026 (TBC). The conference format in the past has included: interactive panels with health system leaders including hospital CEOs, senior government officials and health system advisors; exhibits of innovations; guest speakers; and, awards for top innovators.

Recognition and Dissemination

In order to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge, IFPOC works with other organizations to seek opportunities to further promote funding for our Innovation Fund projects. To that end, the IFPOC will annually be asking Governance Organizations to provide abstracts of their “best” projects for consideration for IFPOC Awards.

IFPOC hopes that, as part of its mandate to disseminate knowledge, the Committee and its top physician leads will collaborate with academic and other institutions across the Province so that the seed funding provided by the Innovation Fund can be maximized for those projects found to have been exceptionally successful.
