Alexander G. Logan

Alexander G. Logan, MD, FRCP(C), Professor of Medicine, University of Toronto is a member of the Division of Nephrology at Mount Sinai Hospital and University Health Network in Toronto.

He is a senior scientist in the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of the Mount Sinai Hospital. He has had a lifelong interest in designing and testing new models of healthcare delivery. Initial studies centred on having specially trained nurses travel to worksites where they had the authority to change drug treatment using pre-specified algorithms. More recent studies focused on remote patient monitoring of key physiological parameters which were sent automatically to servers for processing and through algorithms sending action messages immediately back to patients. Current efforts harness the capabilities of the rapidly expanding digital environment to create virtual clinics that can provide expert advice quickly, efficiently and remotely.  He is the author of over 200 peer-reviewed papers and currently holds a peerreviewed grant from Canadian Institutes for Health Research to develop and test a virtual clinic.
