AREA OF RESEARCH

Dr. Poulin led a priority setting partnership to identify chronic pain (CP) research priorities in Canada and found access to care to be a top priority for people living with pain. This led to the development and implementation of a stepped care approach which eliminated a 6-month waitlist to access interprofessional care at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) Pain Clinic.
Dr. Poulin worked on improving access to CP care for people with repeated emergency room visits through a rapid access interprofessional program integrating pain, mental health, and substance use treatments. This IFPOC-funded study demonstrated improved clinical outcomes and reduced ED visits. Dr. Poulin is exploring barriers to care, with attention to marginalization, and the role of virtual care through Power Over Pain.
