My work has focused on different aspects of the response to radiotherapy. My early fundamental research studies aimed to better understand the radiation-induced DNA damage response in normal and cancer cells, and have informed my more recent work to understand ways to maximize the overall benefits of breast radiotherapy by clinical studies of patient outcomes and radiation treatment techniques. Specific areas of interest include research aimed at improving breast cancer therapy and reducing the burden of treatment (partial breast irradiation, cardiac-sparing techniques) and re-irradiation. Other areas of research include improving timely access to quality radiotherapy and personalized care models of radiation treatment delivery.
