AREA OF RESEARCH
Dr. McNally has two main areas of interest. First, he leads a program of research evaluating the role of vitamin D deficiency, and rapid normalization of vitamin D status in pediatric critical care. Presently his team, and the Canadian critical care community are enrolling into a 10 centre CIHR funding RCT. Second, he is interested in technology that improves connectivity/collaboration in research and its impact on quality and efficiency including crowdsourcing and machine learning.
MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE AND/OR HEALTH CARE DELIVERY
He is one of the leading pediatric critical care researchers in Canada, and is presently leading the largest RCT (sites and patient enrolled) performed in Canada in the past two decades. His work validating crowdsourcing as a means to enhance knowledge synthesis was among the first in the world and is well cited. He further helped translate this research through the development of a software platform that has been used by pediatricians and critical care physicians for more than a hundred systematic reviews.
