AREA OF RESEARCH
My research and educational interests are in the area of quality improvement and procedural innovation. I am interested in the dissemination of best practices in advanced endoscopy and specifically in improving the quality of polypectomies (during colonoscopy) being performed in an effort to decrease the rates of incomplete polyp resection and subsequently post-colonoscopy colorectal cancers.
MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE AND/OR HEALTH CARE DELIVER
I teach skills improvement courses in colonoscopy and polypectomy across Canada. I developed a Youtube channel focused on advanced endoscopy skills. I co-direct an annual live endoscopy course. I direct our advanced endoscopy program and have trained over 40 endoscopists (now leaders in their respective countries). I am co-leading a provincial initiative whereby we are developing an integrated strategy for the expedited diagnosis, assessment and treatment of complex colorectal polyps. I am leading a local initiative looking to improve the patient experience through the use of a novel information technology application. Finally, I am leading an international trial testing a new device designed to improve defect closure after advanced resections.
