AREA OF RESEARCH

Dr. Karen Okrainec is a health services researcher at Toronto General Research Institute and ICES. Her research program focuses on identifying gaps for patients transitioning in and out of hospital and evaluating new tools and models of care focused on high quality care.

MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE AND/OR HEALTH CARE DELIVERY

Dr. Okrainec’s research has contributed to an innovative new tool, the patient oriented discharge summary, which has spread to over 30 hospitals across Ontario and Canada. PODS has filled a gap by improving the quality of discharge communication and patient experience.
