Laura McAdam
Dr. Laura McAdam is a paediatrician who leads a large multidisciplinary neuromuscular clinic at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Canada’s largest children’s paediatric rehabilitation hospital. She is a Lecturer at the University of Toronto in the Department of Paediatrics. She is a Clinician Investigator with the Bloorview Research Institute and she has completed the Global Clinical Scholars Research Training Program at Harvard University. Her research is focused on enhancing care for patients with neuromuscular diseases, primarily Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). She has a strong interest in quality of care and is currently the Principal Investigator in three separate studies that evaluate solution-focused coaching, enhancing the human dimensions of care and a needs assessment focusing on self-determination in regional neuromuscular clinics across Canada. She is also currently conducting a trial to determine the efficacy and safety of a drug that aims to slow the disease progression of Duchenne muscular dystrophy in boys who are still ambulatory. She is a past recipient of the Young Investigators Award from the annual meeting of the Child Neurology Society as well as the Elsevier Award from the World Muscle Society.
