Dr. Irwin received her MD from Harvard University and completed her Paediatrics and Oncology training at Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She joined the Division of Haematology/Oncology at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) as a Staff Physician and Clinical-Scientist in 2002. From 2008-2020 she was the Associate Chair of Paediatrics (Research) and held the position of Solid Tumour Section Head from 2011-2020. On April 1, 2020 she was appointed to the position of Paediatrician-in-Chief at SickKids, and Chair of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. Dr. Irwin who runs a cancer research lab, is Chair of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Neuroblastoma Biology Committee, and involved in the development of North American clinical trials and precision medicine approaches for the pediatric tumor neuroblastoma. In her role as Chief of Paediatrics Dr. Irwin is interested in training and career development of academic general and subspecialist pediatricians and has a long standing interest in mentorship and training pathways for clinician-scientists.
