AREA OF RESEARCH
We have studied drug safety and efficacy issues in children across a broad number of therapeutic classes. This was has included basic and mechanistic work as well as undertaking pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies, a relevant example being the first and largest study exploring the use of ketamine and propofol for safe and effective sedation in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. In the laboratory we have conducted innovative research to develop novel strategies to prevent drug-induced renal injury during chemotherapy and serious drug-induced skin disease such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. We have used this work to develop a unifying hypothesis for drug hypersensitivity in children.
