AREA OF RESEARCH
My research is community-based, focused on co-designing and testing interventions to support immigrant and refugee families, particularly those with children with special needs. Our work is don wholly in partnership with families and community agencies to align with community needs.
MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE AND/OR HEALTH CARE DELIVERY
- Awarded IFPOC grant led to the development of the Compass Clinic, which provides low-barrier, trauma-informed and culturally safe care for children new to Canada, which has supported >300 families
- Led the co-design of a toolkit to support asylum seeking youth navigate healthcare in Canada, which has been presented to federal agencies and policymakers for dissemination
- Awarded a SickKids-CIHR New Investigator Award to co-design with migrant families a prospective cohort study to follow children’s growth and nutrition outcomes
